European leading company Sappi Europe has officially entered the book paper market with the launch of a new product called “Galerie Book”. This uncoated mechanical paper is produced at Sappi’s Kirkenes mill in Finland and meets the growing need of publishers for sustainable| reliable and versatile paper.


According to the Iranian Printing and Packaging News Agency| the key features of Gallery Book are:

- Compliance with market standards: Easy replacement with existing suppliers without changing printing processes.

- Sustainable production: Production at the Kirkenes mill with an advanced water management system (using 18 times the water before treatment) and sourcing wood from responsibly managed forests within a 300 km radius.

- Carbon footprint reduction: 70% reduction in the product’s carbon footprint by using biomass energy and clean electricity| along with waste-free operations.

- Print flexibility: Same performance across different printing technologies (thermal| cold| digital). Weight options and product types:

- Creamy: 52| 55 and 60g weights with 1.8| 2.0 and 2.2 thickness

- Creamy Bulk: 55g weight with 2.3 thickness (for better opacity and feel)

- Galerie Book White: Under development

The product is currently being offered to major European customers and publishers have been very receptive to the emergence of a new sustainable option in the book paper market. This move confirms SAPIs commitment to innovation in the graphic papers sector.
